Three Awards for Sage Creek Canyon Home

The Summit County Builders Association held their 2009 Summit County Parade of Homes Sept 19-27. This year's Parade featured 24 homes county-wide ranging in price from $700,000 to over $7 million. Kirs Herdt, of Austin Bluffs Lighting in Colorado Springs participated in the judging of seven homes in the $1.6-$2.5 million category. "It was tough choosing the winners this year because all of the homes were unique, creative and great workmanship. Summit County Builder's Association should be very proud of the event and the homes represented by their membership."

Mountain Log Homes of Colorado's Sage Creek Canyon Home, designed by Denver Architect Brian Higgins of Raw Architecture, took home top honors in Exterior Elevation, Builder Concept and Landscaping. Brian L. Wray, General Contractor on the project expressed a special appreciation for the Builder Concept Award. "This is the most coveted award for me. As the builder, I don't always have control over the final interior decorating or even the floor plan the homeowner and architect design. But I can make sure that my crew and all the subcontractors work together as a team to make sure the overall end product is the best it can be and meets the homeowners intent for a lovely livable home". Not only is the home beautiful, but is also energy efficient. "This home was one of only 6 quantified Energy Star Homes in the 2009 Parade. We have made a commitment to sustainable building practices" By partnering with companies like Rocky Mountain Log Homes who used Sustainable Forestry Practices and only dead standing timber and Sierra Pacific Windows with a similar award winning commitments to the environment , Mountain Log Homes of Colorado will continue to offer quality homes with minimal impact on the environment.

The home features 4,300 sq. ft of living space with an expansive great room of full round 10"-12" logs from Rocky Mountain Log Homes of Hamilton Montana. The rest of the home features Native Moss Rock and custom Board on Board beetle-kill siding milled locally at Hester's Mill. The setting is spectacular, located directly on the Blue River just north of the Silverthorne town limits with trout fishing just off a short landscaped walkway with log bridges. The landscaping was a collaborative effort with Neils Lunceford, who planted native plants and trees and recreated a series of wetlands between the home and river, and Rocky Mountain Stonescapes who designed an impressive curved driveway and walkway system of permeable granite pavers. A common comment from the over 1,000 guests who viewed the home during the Parade of Homes was "This is the most livable home we have seen on the tour. I want to move in!" If you are interested in building a log home in the near future and missed the September Tour, it is not too late. The home is available to be seen by appointment by calling 970-468-8683. Mountain Log Homes of Colorado also plans to feature a 3800 sq. ft. Western Red Cedar Handcrafted home in the 2010 Parade of Homes in Breckenridge. Check for details and dates.
